We have received £15,000 from the Postcode Local Trust for our ‘Bee Amazing – Pollination for the Nation’ project. This is for one year and will involve at least twenty schools sessions delivered on-site, ten outreach in the community sessions working with volunteers to build Bee Hotels, Meadows in a Box and seeds for reseeding our wildflower meadow at Norton Priory. The project educates people on the importance of pollinating insects. Honey boo and pollinating insects worldwide are dying due to disease and human influence such as the use of pesticides on crops. It is estimated that without pollinating insects doing their vital work we would lose one in every three mouthfuls of food! We want to create a haven for these marvellous beasties here at Norton Priory and enable schools and community groups to do the same.
The project enables us to extend our beekeeping on site, and provides funding for exhibition materials and a video project which will be on show in the new Norton Priory Museum. If you know a school or group who would like to get involved in this project, please contact us.
