Norton Priory Museum are inviting learning disabled young adults to find out more about a new arts project at a series of Blue Room taster days.
Blue Room is a new inclusive arts programme for learning disabled young adults who like art.
Blue Room, which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary, is run by Bluecoat, Liverpool’s centre for contemporary arts. Now a new group is starting at Norton Priory Museum thanks to Arts Council funding.
Interested young adults are invited to find out more about Blue Room by attending a series of FREE taster days in the summer holidays. These will take place at Norton Priory Museum every Friday in August from 10am to 4pm.
The Blue Room project is for learning disabled young adults aged 18-25. The group members will meet at Norton Priory every Friday, from 10am to 4pm, starting in September. Working with an artist facilitator and guest artists, Blue Room members will go on an exciting journey together, learning about contemporary art and artists, developing a range of art skills and creating their own artwork. Members will They make their own artwork and films and share them with thousands of people. They make new friends and develop new skills and confidence. Some members help to run activities for children.
Bluecoat’s Head of Engagement, Bec Fearon said: “We can accommodate young people with complex and pan disabilities and will be providing support as part of your Blue Room membership fee, should you want to join after your taster session experience. If you would like to try out a Blue Room session join us at one of our FREE taster days taking place at Norton Priory every Friday in August from 10am – 4pm, in which we’ll be making art together, both inside and outside, and having a brilliant time! Then if you decide you would like to stay and become a member of Blue Room at Norton Priory your place will cost £54 per week and include support from a trained social care professional.”
