Unlocking Norton's Collections

Date: Various dates during February - June 2024

August 2023 to June 2024

This Arts Council funded project will provide participants with the opportunity to see how archaeological discoveries made here at Norton Priory go through various stages within the museum to eventually go on display.

August to November 2023

Join our archaeological specialists as we discover what fascinating finds have been discovered in our recent excavations. During this series of linked sessions you will learn how to identify different archaeological material types, catalogue, record and quantify finds and how to date them. You will also be involved in the selection of objects for photography and display within the museum. All objects will range in date from the early medieval period through to the twentieth century.

All sessions run from 10am to 4pm. 8 places per session. Lunch is not included but tea/coffee will be available. Suitable for 16 years and over. No experience required.

Saturday 26th August – eighteenth century wine bottles and drinking vessels, window glass, plaster, roof tile and other medieval and post-medieval construction materials.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in creating content for the museum display including writing object labels and thinking about the look and the layout of the display.
