Halton Castle is located in the nearby village of Halton. Little survives of the medieval structure although the 18th century courthouse is now a pub, ‘Halton Castle Hotel’ and the views from the bailey overlooking the river Mersey and across the sandstone ridge are extraordinary.
The Norton Priory Museum Trust manages the castle on behalf of the Duchy of Lancaster who have owned it since the 14th century. The Castle is not typically open for visitors but groups and schools can book tours and education sessions by contacting us on 01928 569895. The castle is also opened for special events such as Heritage Open Day.
